In
order to maintain the National Colostrum Network list of donors, the NCN
co-coordinators update the colostrum donor lists by calling previous donors and
those who have expressed interest in serving as new donors. This is typically done during the months of
December and January each year. It is
up to the donor whether or not they wish to charge for the colostrum they have
collected and frozen. There is no
charge for utilizing the services of the National Colostrum Network.
All callers to
the NCN are encouraged to become future donors. If they are interested, the NCN will send them the informational
pamphlets and an introduction letter detailing the requirements of serving as a
donor for the Network. This information
is also sent out each year to returning colostrum donors.
In order to
continue to broaden the amount of donors the National Colostrum Network works
with, new donors are solicited via booths at public events (such as the
Minnesota Horse Expo, 4-H Horse Shows, and the annual American Association of
Equine Practitioners (AAEP) convention).
Information on the NCN, becoming a donor and how to properly collect and
store colostrum is also placed in the office waiting area of the University of
Minnesota-College of Veterinary Medicine Large Animal Hospital. This same information can also be sent to
anyone who requests it by calling the NCN paging system at (651) 647-8391.
The National Colostrum Network was founded at the
University of
Minnesota-College of Veterinary Medicine.
